A Major Metal Gear Solid 2 Leak — Source Code for Hideo Kojima’s Legendary Game’s HD Remaster Hits the Web

News of a massive leak connected to the iconic Metal Gear Solid 2 has surfaced online. According to users on anonymous forums, the source code for the game’s HD version, along with a hefty archive of original assets, has been made publicly available.
This isn’t about the classic PlayStation 2 release, but rather the remastered edition from the HD Collection, which launched in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The total size of the leaked files, once unpacked, is around 28 GB. Inside are thousands of textures, uncompressed audio files, and cutscenes, making this leak especially valuable from a technical standpoint.
Some code fragments point to early versions of scenes that were later changed — particularly the final episode involving Arsenal Gear, which was edited after the events of September 11. The file structure also hints at cross-platform development: references to builds for Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and even Windows can be found in the code.
Fueling further interest is the fact that the PS Vita port was developed by Armature Studio, which reportedly ceased to exist in early 2026. Some users speculate that this may have indirectly contributed to the leak, though there’s no official confirmation.
For the fan community, this kind of leak is potentially a big deal. Access to the source code and “raw” assets could theoretically pave the way for higher-quality mods for modern versions of the game, including improved textures, graphical bug fixes, and even restoration of cut content. That said, it’s too early to tell what the outcome will be — projects like this take time and coordination.
Originally released in 2001, Metal Gear Solid 2 is considered one of the most influential stealth-action games ever. The Konami and Hideo Kojima (Hideo Kojima) title is renowned not just for its gameplay, but also for its complex, layered narrative — still a hot topic among gamers today. Despite its age, the game remains a landmark in industry history and, as this leak proves, continues to find new ways to make headlines decades later.
By the way, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is set to release on August 27. The developers have already shared the system requirements for Metal Gear Solid 4, which is included in the collection. Additionally, it was reported in April that new directors have been found for the upcoming MGS movie.
Do you think this leak will inspire major fan projects based on Metal Gear Solid 2, or will it just lead to minor improvements?
