Subnautica 2 Devs Reveal Roadmap for Upcoming Updates: What to Expect in the First Patches
Following the long-awaited Early Access launch of Subnautica 2 on May 14, 2026, Unknown Worlds Entertainment has officially shared its development roadmap for the next few months of its underwater survival game. The developers are promising a steady stream of updates, noting that patches will range from targeted system fixes to large-scale content expansions. At this stage, the team’s core philosophy is to work closely with the community to ensure the best possible gameplay experience.
The first major step in the game’s evolution will be update EA 1.1, focused entirely on core improvements and overall gameplay polish. In this patch, the team plans to refine key mechanics, including the Biomods system, Blight encounters, and wreck exploration. Improvements will also target vehicle docking and fabrication systems, the PDA databank, and audio log playback prioritization. On the more exciting side, players can expect new gameplay features such as additional passive biomod slots, a dedicated resource storage cache, and the long-requested sprint ability for faster movement.
The next phase, EA 1.2, will focus on the co-op experience, aiming to make underwater exploration with friends more seamless and engaging. Developers will rework HUD signals for better team navigation, improve the base building tool, and refine the pinned crafting recipes system. In addition, the update will introduce in-game voice chat, emotes, player trading between session participants, a revival mechanic for downed teammates, and expanded character customization options.
Once the core systems and co-op features are refined through these early patches, Unknown Worlds will move on to larger-scale content expansions. Players can expect a brand-new region that significantly expands the boundaries of the world. The developers plan to introduce unexplored biomes, new creatures, fresh resources, advanced tools, and new vehicle types. This will also coincide with the next chapter of the storyline, further uncovering the mysteries of the game’s universe.
Throughout all stages of the roadmap, the developers will continue delivering ongoing technical fixes, balance adjustments, and performance optimizations. The team also emphasized that purchasing the game during Early Access grants access to all future updates and expansions at no additional cost. They further highlighted that the final shape of Subnautica 2 will be heavily influenced by player feedback, encouraging users to actively use the in-game feedback tool and the Nolt platform to vote on community suggestions and help shape development priorities.
