AMD Confirms FSR 4.1 Will Not Support RDNA 3.5 Integrated Graphics, Leaving Ryzen AI APUs Behind

AMD has confirmed it will not bring its upcoming FSR 4.1 upscaling technology to RDNA 3.5-based integrated graphics, including the latest Ryzen AI 300 and 400 series APUs. The decision, confirmed by AMD Vice President and Radeon head David McAfee, means that some of the company’s most advanced mobile chips will miss out on the new upscaler.

FSR 4.1 is designed to boost frame rates and visual quality, especially on lower-end hardware. Yet, despite this focus, AMD’s roadmap does not include support for integrated GPUs based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. This affects a wide range of APUs, including Strix Point, Strix Halo, Krackan Point, Gorgon Point, and Gorgon Halo families — many of which power laptops and mini-PCs relying on integrated Radeon 8050S, 8060S, and 890M graphics. These chips often deliver performance on par with entry-level discrete GPUs, making the omission of FSR 4.1 particularly notable.

Instead, FSR 4.1 support will roll out to discrete Radeon RX 7000 (RDNA 3) GPUs in July, and to RX 6000 (RDNA 2) cards in early 2027. Users of RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics, however, will remain on older FSR versions or have to rely on basic spatial upscaling, despite having hardware capable of INT8 operations.

Industry analysts point to architectural differences between discrete and integrated GPUs as a likely reason for the split. Discrete cards use different AI compute blocks than APUs, and adapting FSR 4.1’s neural upscaling for RDNA 3.5 may require extensive manual optimization or could prove inefficient altogether.

For consumers, this marks a clear segmentation in AMD’s ecosystem. While previous efforts aimed for unified software support, the latest decision leaves powerful integrated graphics in Ryzen AI systems without access to the company’s newest gaming technology.
