Senua Announced — Ninja Theory Reveals a New Game Set in the Hellblade Universe
At Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Ninja Theory officially unveiled Senua, a new action-adventure game set in the Hellblade universe. Alongside the announcement, the studio released the project's debut trailer.
Once again, players will step into the shoes of Senua, the Celtic warrior who finds herself caught between life and death in a dark, purgatory-like realm. To reunite with the people she loved and lost, she must endure dangerous trials, confront her inner demons, and battle supernatural forces standing in her way.
According to the developers, Senua features a standalone story that can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the Hellblade series. The narrative focuses on themes of acceptance, peace, and difficult choices as Senua journeys through a world shaped by fear, pain, and destruction. Along the way, she will face gods, spirits, and mythical creatures born from those emotions.
Ninja Theory describes Senua as an action-adventure experience heavily focused on myth, madness, and psychological storytelling. Players will explore Senua's personal purgatory, a fantastical realm viewed through the lens of her psychosis. As they journey through this world, they'll solve puzzles, uncover hidden meanings, and gradually piece together the truth behind Senua's search for peace.
Combat will play a major role in the experience. Senua can wield weapons in both hands and unleash powerful abilities against a wide variety of enemies. The developers promise brutal battles against terrifying creatures born from human fears, as well as large-scale encounters with formidable mythological bosses.
As with the studio's previous projects, immersion remains a key focus. Ninja Theory aims to combine cinematic presentation, striking visuals, and atmospheric sound design to convey Senua's emotional state and make her journey through purgatory feel deeply personal and intense.
Senua is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A release date has not yet been announced. The game will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
