Valheim 1.0 Launches September 9 With Final Deep North Biome and Major Update
Iron Gate and Coffee Stain Publishing say players should start a fresh save to properly experience the reworked world and systems arriving with Valheim 1.0, due September 9, 2026. The studios officially announced the date and confirmed the update will ship to PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game already has a Steam page.
Deep North is the final major biome addition to Valheim's world: a harsh, snowbound region of relentless blizzards, abandoned villages and survival challenges tied to extreme cold. New creatures include Gammeltrolls, ancient trolls reborn as massive northern guardians, and Elakingar, horned burrowers that tunnel and ambush. A unique Deep North boss will also await players who brave the region.
The 1.0 update expands Valheim's arsenal with Nord axes, greatswords, bows, a giant round shield and the Frostfire crossbow, and it adds an unlimited-use grappling hook for traversal. Players will also find new food, recipes and building pieces, along with improved enemy AI that adapts to combat styles. Deep North brings new dungeon types such as Winding Tunnels, more than 50 new Steam achievements, and new cinematics for all bosses and the finale.
Full cross-play between all supported platforms will be available at launch. Iron Gate has said a price increase is expected with the 1.0 release.
Valheim first launched in Early Access on February 2, 2021, and has sold over 17 million copies. After more than five years in Early Access — a rare stretch for the genre — players now face the choice: will you start fresh in Deep North, or stick with your old save files?
