Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Announced for PC and Consoles, Launching Winter 2026

Nightdive Studios announced that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered has been rebuilt from the ground up on the studio's proprietary KEX Engine; the studio says the redesign preserves the original levels' pacing and tension while updating the underlying technology. It's slated to launch in winter 2026 on PC and consoles.
Thief: The Dark Project Remastered includes all 12 original missions plus the three additions from Thief Gold. Visuals are enhanced for up to 4K resolution and 120 FPS on supported hardware, and textures, models, animations, and cutscenes have been refreshed for a cleaner presentation.
The release will be co-published by Eidos Montreal and Atari and available on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. The game already has a Steam page.
The remaster adds modern gamepad support — including a weapon and item wheel, rumble feedback, and optional motion/gyro controls — plus a mission selector so players can replay completed missions. On PC, built-in support for custom campaigns opens access to fan-made content, and the package also includes achievements and a vault of behind-the-scenes materials for completionists.
Nightdive says it preserved the original level geometry and core design, applying only minor bug fixes to maintain the original's stealth-focused tension. Owners of the original Switch release will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 edition at no additional cost. As Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick put it, "Thief didn't just introduce stealth mechanics, it defined them. With this remaster, we've preserved the tension and intelligence of the original while enhancing it for modern players, ensuring that its legacy continues to influence how stealth games are played today."
