Nintendo Unveils New Star Fox Trailer and Announces Switch 2 Demo

During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed a new trailer for Star Fox, a reimagining of the iconic space shooter franchise set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. At the same time, the company confirmed that a free demo of the game will be available on the Nintendo eShop later today.

The demo gives players a chance to learn the basics of the controls and experience one of the opening missions from the campaign. Fans will once again take control of legendary pilot Fox McCloud and embark on a journey across the Lylat System to stop the invasion led by the mad scientist Andross.

This new version of Star Fox serves as a modern reimagining of the story from Star Fox 64. The developers have completely overhauled the visuals for Nintendo Switch 2, added full voice acting for all major characters, and recorded a brand-new orchestral soundtrack. At the same time, the game retains the series’ signature fast-paced gameplay, featuring intense space battles, enemy squadrons to take down, and dangerous missions across multiple planets in the Lylat System.

Based on the footage shown, Nintendo appears to be targeting both longtime fans of the original and a new generation of players with its modern visual style, cinematic storytelling, and spectacular aerial combat.

Star Fox launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25. Pre-orders are now open, and the free demo will be available to download via the Nintendo eShop.

During the presentation, Nintendo also announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and showcased a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4.
