Nintendo Announces Xenoblade Genesis for Switch 2, Debut Trailer Released

During the June Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo and Monolith Soft officially unveiled Xenoblade Genesis, the next entry in the beloved JRPG franchise. The game is set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

The debut trailer featured a mix of cinematic sequences and gameplay footage, introducing a brand-new cast of characters, unexplored regions, and a fresh story that will expand the Xenoblade universe. Based on what was shown, the developers appear to be leaning into a more whimsical and fantasy-driven aesthetic compared to previous installments in the series.

The trailer showcases lush green landscapes, towering castles, mysterious ruins, and a variety of new creatures inhabiting the world. Some locations stand out from the franchise’s traditional style and feel closer to classic fantasy RPGs such as Fire Emblem.

While Nintendo has yet to reveal story details, fans have already begun speculating about possible connections to earlier Xenoblade games. Some clues shown in the trailer suggest that Xenoblade Genesis could serve as a prequel to previous mainline entries, exploring events that took place before the stories players already know.

Nintendo's official description was notably brief, referring to Xenoblade Genesis as “a new beginning for the Xenoblade series” and promising to share more information at a later date.

A specific release date has not been announced, but the game is currently scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2027.

During the same Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo also announced a new wave of major third-party ports coming to Switch 2 and revealed the long-awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
