Unhinged, a new interactive horror game from Night School Studio — the creators of Oxenfree — will launch exclusively for Netflix subscribers on June 30, 2026. The game is designed for smartphones and TVs, and is already listed in the Netflix Games hub. Unhinged promises a bite-sized, cinematic experience where your phone becomes both the controller and a key part of the story.

Players step into the shoes of Ava, voiced by Zoë Kravitz, who finds herself trapped in her apartment during a hurricane with a killer on the loose. Ava's friend Claire, who lives across the hall, is voiced by Sadie Sink, while the building superintendent Ben is played by Troy Baker. All three characters are drawn into a tense conflict inside a locked-down apartment building.

Unhinged features an innovative control scheme: your smartphone acts as the controller, mirroring Ava's movements through gyroscope controls. Players can use their phone as a real-time flashlight, and in-game calls and messages come directly to the device, complete with vibrations and sounds to heighten immersion. The experience is designed to blur the line between interactive movie and game.

The game offers two modes: a story mode without timers or death, and a standard mode where players must find items quickly to survive. Choices matter — who you call, which rooms you explore, and how you respond to messages all influence dialogue and story outcomes. Each playthrough takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Unhinged is included with a Netflix subscription, with no ads or in-app purchases. To play, you'll need a Netflix account, a smartphone, a TV, and a stable internet connection. The game is designed to be accessible, with simple controls and no complex survival mechanics, making it easy for anyone to jump in and enjoy.

We wanted to make sure that this could feel like a TV show or a movie. There are so many people out there who might love an interactive horror experience, but who don't want to get good at aiming, survival mechanics, or rationing their ammunition. All of our design decisions were about how to make this thing really simple to interact with and approachable.
— Sean Krankel, Night School Studio cofounder

Unhinged is also intended as a communal experience — while only one person controls Ava, the game is designed to be just as watchable as it is playable, much like a Netflix series or film.

How do you feel about interactive horror games that use your phone as the sole controller and can be completed in just half an hour?
