Liminal Point Devs Blocked on X After Complaints Over Heroine's Design in Survival Horror Game

HideWorks, the developer behind Liminal Point, has had its official X account blocked after a wave of complaints about the sexualized design of the game's main heroine. This move has sparked a heated debate among players over the limits of character design in video games and the responsibilities of platform moderation. The psychological survival horror game, set on a fog-shrouded, abandoned island, is currently available to wishlist on its Steam page.

According to HideWorks, X notified them of a rule violation but did not clarify which specific rule was breached. The developers expressed confusion about the ban and highlighted the loss of a crucial promotional channel just ahead of the game's release.

Many players speculate that the suspension was prompted by mass reports concerning the protagonist Lyra's revealing neckline. However, HideWorks has not confirmed whether the character's design directly led to the account block.

The story of Liminal Point centers on Lyra, a former rock musician who returns to the mysterious island to search for her missing bandmate, Mira. In 2024, Lyra's appearance drew comparisons to Claire Redfield from Resident Evil, further increasing attention on the project.

While the loss of their X account is a significant setback for the small studio, interest in Liminal Point has continued to grow. The game is planned for release in 2026, though a specific launch date has yet to be announced.

Do you think user complaints about character design should influence how games are promoted or moderated on social platforms?
