It Looks Like GTA 6 Won’t Be Officially Available in Russia, China, and Several Other Countries
Following reports that physical editions of Grand Theft Auto 6 will include a download code instead of a disc, new details have emerged that could prove even more significant for some players.
Fans recently spotted an updated FAQ on PlayStation’s official website covering GTA 6 pre-order bonuses. Based on the list of countries eligible for a free month of GTA+, the game may not be officially available in several regions around the world.
The countries in question are:
- Russia;
- China;
- Bahrain;
- Kuwait;
- Lebanon;
- Oman;
- Qatar;
- Taiwan.
At the time of writing, neither Rockstar Games nor Sony has officially confirmed that GTA 6 is banned in these countries. However, their absence from the list of supported regions has already sparked considerable discussion among players.
The game's physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have also drawn additional scrutiny. As previously reported, boxed copies of GTA 6 will not include a physical disc, with buyers instead receiving a code to download the digital version of the game.
Meanwhile, product listings for physical copies of GTA 6 at some European retailers include warnings about activation restrictions. According to these listings, the download codes can only be redeemed on accounts registered in specific countries. The supported territories reportedly include many European nations, as well as Turkey, South Africa, and several other regions.
These restrictions have become one of the reasons why some retailers are unhappy with Rockstar’s approach. Video Games Plus and Loot Box Gaming have already announced that they will not be selling physical copies of GTA 6, arguing that a "code-in-a-box" release is a step backward for consumers.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Standard Edition will cost $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition will be priced at $99.99.
Do you think GTA 6 really won’t be officially released in these countries, or could this simply be related to regional promotions and activation restrictions?
