It looks like players may not have to say goodbye to physical copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 after all. According to new information, a full disc-based edition of the game could arrive just weeks after launch, and Rockstar has seemingly hinted that such plans are indeed in place.

It was previously revealed that all physical editions of GTA 6 available at launch will include only a download code rather than an actual game disc. The decision sparked significant backlash from the gaming community, with many seeing it as yet another step toward the industry's gradual abandonment of physical media.

However, Polish outlet PPE, citing its insider source, claims that the code-in-a-box edition will only be a temporary solution. According to the report, this format will be used only during the first few weeks following the game's release.

"In general, the code version will be a single production run, after which a disc version will become available," the source reportedly said.

If the information proves accurate, GTA 6 will later receive a proper physical edition featuring game data on the disc, eliminating the need to redeem a digital key tied to a PlayStation or Xbox account.

The source claims that this version could launch as early as December 2026 — less than a month after the game's release and just in time for the holiday shopping season. Such a move would allow Take-Two and Rockstar to appeal to both digital buyers and collectors who still prefer traditional boxed copies.

Adding further weight to the rumor is a customer support response from Rockstar that PPE shared. In the message, Rockstar reportedly states that current pre-orders apply only to the digital version of GTA 6, while a physical copy will be available at a later date.

"Current pre-orders apply only to the digital version. A physical copy will be available for purchase in the coming months," the Rockstar support message reads.

While Rockstar has yet to officially announce a release date for a disc edition, the wording of the response strongly suggests that a proper physical release is still part of the company's plans.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Recently, it was also revealed how much GTA 6 costs across different regions around the world.

Would you buy GTA 6 with just a download code in the box, or would you wait for a proper disc version?
