Rumor: Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, But Rockstar Remains Silent

Rockstar Games may be planning to bring Grand Theft Auto 6 to Nintendo Switch 2, according to a new rumor from industry insider Nash Weedle. Weedle claims that Rockstar has already overcome technical hurdles and enlisted specialist studios to help port its massive open world to Nintendo's next-generation hybrid console. However, sources suggest the Switch 2 version would not launch before 2027.

If the rumor proves accurate, Switch 2 owners would face at least a year-long wait after the game's initial release on other platforms. The only officially confirmed date is November 19, 2026, when Grand Theft Auto 6 will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not announced a PC release date, and neither Rockstar nor Nintendo has confirmed a Switch 2 port.

Nash Weedle says that several independent sources have corroborated the existence of the Switch 2 port, though he has not provided names or concrete evidence. As a result, the rumor relies solely on Weedle's credibility. His track record is mixed: while some consider him reliable for Nintendo leaks, others recall previous bold claims that did not materialize, including earlier suggestions of a simultaneous release with other platforms.

A 2027 release would be consistent with Rockstar's history of staggered launches, as PC versions of its games often arrive well after the initial console debut. Any Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto 6 would almost certainly require significant reductions in graphics and performance to run on Nintendo's less powerful hardware.

For now, attention remains on the confirmed launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders and premium editions already available. As for PC and Switch 2, fans will have to wait for official announcements and treat current rumors with caution.

Would you want to play Grand Theft Auto 6 on Switch 2, even with reduced graphics, or is this a game best experienced on more powerful hardware?
