Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Sparks Massive Player Surge in Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam

CYBERPUNK: Edgerunners 2, the highly anticipated anime series from Studio TRIGGER and CD Projekt RED, has sparked a massive resurgence in Cyberpunk 2077's player base, drawing tens of thousands of fans back to Night City. On June 28, 2026, Cyberpunk 2077 reached a peak of 87,515 concurrent players on Steam — a remarkable milestone for a single-player game nearly six years after its original release.

The renewed interest comes on the heels of major announcements about Edgerunners 2. The new season will premiere on Netflix in autumn 2026, featuring a standalone story across 10 episodes and introducing an entirely new cast: Wick Kingsley, Dee, Roman Karax, and Talia Yang. The season's key visual was created by Ichigo Kanno, known for work on the original Edgerunners and Evangelion: 3.0+1.01.

A new teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will debut on June 29, 2026, at 18:30 Moscow time. Additional details are set to be revealed at Anime Expo 2026, with a dedicated presentation scheduled for July 4. These updates have clearly fueled renewed enthusiasm for the Cyberpunk universe.

This is the highest player count for Cyberpunk 2077 since December 2023, when the game saw 89,000 concurrent users. The all-time record remains 274,000, set during the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion. Notably, this latest spike is driven not by new DLC, but by excitement surrounding the expanding media universe.

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently featured in a major Steam sale, with the base edition discounted by 70% and the complete edition by 60%. The game continues to serve as a technical showcase, supporting path tracing, DLSS 4, and Frame Generation on multiple NVIDIA GPU generations. It is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro optimization), and Nintendo Switch 2.
