Atlus Achieves Record Profit Growth as SEGA Bets on Multiplatform Hits Like Persona 4 Revival

Atlus has reported record-breaking profit growth for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, as SEGA doubles down on a multiplatform strategy for its flagship titles. The company saw operating profit soar by 92.5% and net profit climb by 74.2%, a surge directly linked to expanding its releases across more platforms and reaching new international audiences.

SEGA has now set an ambitious benchmark for its top-tier games: each flagship release is expected to surpass 5 million lifetime sales. This target applies not only to the highly anticipated remake Persona 4 Revival, but also to Stranger Than Heaven, a brand-new IP from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. The company has made it clear that these are individual goals for each title, not a combined figure.

The confidence behind these targets is rooted in the numbers. The Persona franchise has now sold 30 million copies worldwide, a milestone achieved thanks to a broader audience and multiplatform launches. Key contributors include Persona 3 Reload's debut on Nintendo Switch 2 and the free-to-play Persona 5: The Phantom X, both of which have helped drive the series' growth.

Atlus's multiplatform approach has also paid off for other projects. The release of Raidou Remastered on multiple systems expanded the fanbase both in Japan and overseas. Meanwhile, Metaphor: ReFantazio earned "Game of the Year" honors at the Japan Game Awards 2025, further cementing Atlus's momentum beyond just the Persona series.

Looking ahead, SEGA plans to raise the bar even higher, aiming for a 10 million sales benchmark for future flagship games. However, the company acknowledges that rising development costs and inflation present ongoing challenges for the industry, making these sales targets both a bold aspiration and a test of its new strategy.

Persona 4 Revival is set for release on February 18, 2027, while Stranger Than Heaven is expected to launch in early 2027. With such high expectations, the coming year will reveal whether SEGA's multiplatform bet pays off for both established franchises and new IPs.

Do you think SEGA's goal of 5 million sales for each flagship game is realistic — or is it too ambitious for a brand-new title like Stranger Than Heaven?
