Bethesda and id Software remove Denuvo from Doom: The Dark Ages as Revelations launches
SteamDB says the removal arrived in build 23888600, and Bethesda and id Software did not mention the Denuvo change in the patch notes. The update went live with the Revelations DLC on 7 July 2026, after Doom: The Dark Ages had kept the anti-tamper protection in place since its March 2025 launch.
The omission made the change easy to miss at first, with players and trackers spotting it only after checking the build data. As a result, the Denuvo removal reads less like a planned feature highlight and more like a quiet side effect of the broader update.
There is also some history behind the timing. The game had already been fully cracked by the Voices38 cracking group, so Bethesda and id Software have now effectively closed the DRM chapter themselves, even without drawing attention to it.
Doom: The Dark Ages is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, so the same update affects all three platforms. With Revelations now out and Denuvo gone, the biggest question is whether this was a deliberate decision or just an accidental test build that made it live.
Was Denuvo removed on purpose for Revelations, or did a test build slip through by mistake?
