Joel Actor Weighs In on The Last of Us Part 3 Again and Shares an Idea for the Next Game

Troy Baker, best known for playing Joel in The Last of Us series, has once again commented on the franchise’s future during an interview with Insider Gaming. While he didn’t reveal any new details or announcements, his remarks have reignited discussion about a potential third installment.
During the conversation, the interviewer pitched an idea for the next game — a prequel focused on Joel and Tommy during the early years of the Cordyceps outbreak. According to the journalist, such a project could explore events that have only been briefly referenced throughout the series.
Baker responded by saying he would be open to almost any direction for the franchise.
I would be on board with anything. If Neil decides that he has a place for me, then I’ve learned at this point to listen to him, because he’s really smart.
The actor also pointed out that there is still a nearly 20-year gap in Joel and Tommy’s story that remains largely unexplored and could serve as a strong foundation for a future game.
There’s this beautiful thing about the mystery of what happened between Tommy and Joel. There is all the time, the 20 years — you’ve got such beautiful lore to choose from. I think that makes a great foundation for a story.
However, Baker stressed that Naughty Dog could ultimately decide to take the series in a completely different direction.
I’ve also learned to trust Naughty Dog, and maybe there’s a whole other story there that we’re not thinking about.
According to Baker, the decision is entirely up to Neil Druckmann and the team at Naughty Dog. The developers could choose to revisit the characters’ past or continue pushing the franchise in new directions.
As of now, Naughty Dog has not officially announced another game in The Last of Us universe. The studio is currently focused on its upcoming sci-fi project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophecy, which was unveiled last year.
Even so, many fans believe that a franchise as successful as The Last of Us is bound to continue sooner or later. The real question is what story Naughty Dog wants to tell next.
Earlier, Troy Baker stated that he is ready to return to the role of Joel in The Last of Us.
