KOTOR Remake Is Still Targeting 2028, But Saber Calls It Only a Hopeful Timeline
Saber Interactive chief business officer Steve Allison has again left the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake without a firm release date, saying the game is part of the company's 2028 plans only in a "hopefully" sense. He was outlining Saber's lineup for the next few years when he mentioned the project, alongside Space Marine 3, John Wick, and several unannounced games, with no promise that the remake will actually ship by then.
Allison said Saber is preparing a 2028 lineup that includes the remake, along with Space Marine 3, John Wick, and several unannounced projects. In the quote, he described the remake as part of that schedule "hopefully," which only adds to the uncertainty around when it will actually be ready.
The project was first announced in September 2021. At that point, Aspyr Media was handling development, but the remake moved to Saber Interactive in summer 2022 after problems during production.
Since then, Saber has already said three times that the remake is not dead. Even so, there is still no clear release window, and the public messaging around the game remains cautious.
According to court documents cited by 3DNews, Mad Head Games is now responsible for the remake inside Saber. That means the project is still alive, but its path has changed several times since the original announcement.
Do you still see 2028 as a realistic target for the KOTOR remake, or does the project need a much clearer plan first?
