A new site loops Call of Duty lobby voice chats 24/7 — so you can fall asleep to players screaming at each other

Developer Mike Wing launched a site called Call of Duty Ambience that streams the sound of old-school shooter lobbies around the clock. The idea came from a personal habit: as he admitted himself, while most people fall asleep to white noise, he needs the sound of grown men screaming at each other before a match. That's how the project was born — turning the legendary toxicity of Call of Duty voice chat into a soothing background hum.

The whole thing works in the simplest way possible. On the site, you pick which game's atmosphere you want to hear — Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, or Black Ops 2 — and you're dropped into an endless lobby that never actually starts a match. You're greeted by the menu music, the sounds of players constantly joining and dropping out, the countdown to the map load, and someone's mic perpetually buzzing with static in the background. Layered over all of it are the exact same arguments and absurd exchanges that series veterans will instantly recognize — many of which have long since turned into memes over the years.

Essentially, the creator has preserved an entire era of online shooters, back when lobbies were an attraction in their own right rather than just a gap between matches. The developer himself describes his creation as "white noise for people who grew up on Xbox Live" — and it hits exactly the right nostalgic note for an entire generation. The timing is pretty perfect, too: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were recently remastered for PS4 and PS5, so anyone who wants to can not only listen to other people's squabbles, but head into a lobby themselves and stir up some fresh ones.

Could you actually fall asleep to Call of Duty voice chat arguments — or does it sound more like a battle alarm to you? Share your thoughts in the comments.
