A modder has brought No Man's Sky-style seamless takeoffs to Starfield

0xBobby's Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta) for Starfield keeps players in the cockpit during liftoff instead of cutting to a loading screen, giving the game a long-awaited step toward the seamless travel many fans wanted.

Instead of cutting away, the mod keeps you in the ship cockpit during takeoff, so you can watch the planet's atmosphere fade into the void as the ship climbs. In practice, that means the transition feels far less abrupt than the standard version of Starfield.

There is a catch, though. The mod is still in beta, so bugs are possible, and the seamless effect depends on the atmosphere and weather of the planet. It also does not fully eliminate loading: it masks the loading while spawning the ship above the landing site.

0xBobby has also made it clear that fully seamless landings are probably not coming from them.

It probably won't ever happen, at least not from me. Yes, I know of all of the tricks I could use, hiding the loading through clouds or entry flames etc, but even that would be way more complex than what this mod or seamless grav jumps do.

That said, the modder has already moved Starfield closer to the kind of seamless travel associated with No Man's Sky. The mod works only on PC and requires Starfield Script Extender, so Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Game Pass players will have to wait and see whether anything similar ever arrives for them.

For now, Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE looks like a pretty strong proof of concept for a feature many fans assumed would never arrive. The question is whether this kind of masked loading is enough, or whether only fully seamless landings would truly satisfy players.

Is masked loading enough for Starfield, or would only fully seamless landings satisfy you?
