Apex Legends dev built a memorial to his mother inside the game
Apex Legends build engineer Tyler Owens has shared a memorial to his mother tucked away in E-District's Heights point of interest, turning a private loss into something players can find in-game. The tribute was built in the world Owens has worked on for five years.
The memorial sits in E-District, inside the Heights point of interest. To reach it, players have to find the tallest building in that cluster and head to the top floor rather than the roof.
Inside the apartment, a handwritten note is taped to the fridge. It reads:
Can't wait to go on our next adventure together. Let's meet at the beach where the dragonflies are. Love you always, Mom. P.S. I am OK with this.
The room also includes a painting of Owens' dog, copied from an old photo. Owens shared the discovery himself in a multi-slide clip and captioned it,
Surprise dog too!
The version that surfaced shows him reaching the apartment mid-match, with a Mixtape round timer ticking down in the corner.
The tribute is not the first time Apex Legends has folded real loss into its maps. In 2019, players found a hidden dog shrine in Kings Canyon, but this memorial is more personal and much easier to miss. Most people will run past the door without ever realizing what is inside.
Should developers hide personal memorials inside games, or keep them private?
