Xenoblade Chronicles 2 gets a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition overview trailer

Nintendo released an overview trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, showing off new outfits for Pyra and Mythra, Merc Assault, and Momo. The digital version arrives on July 30, 2026, while the physical edition is set for October 1, 2026.

The trailer highlights several additions for the new version, including new outfits for Pyra and Mythra. Their updated designs will also carry over into cutscenes, and the costumes can be earned as rewards for Merc Assault.

Merc Assault is a new mode that lets players directly control Blades. In one mission, you can send up to six Blades, then switch between them during battle depending on what is needed at the moment.

Another new addition is Momo, a rare Blade with two forms. Switching between them changes both her appearance and elemental affinity, which alternates between light and dark, and the character will also come with a new quest.

Nintendo also said the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will run at 4K and 60 frames per second in docked mode, with 1080p output in handheld mode. In addition, the company described the cutscenes as improved in resolution, frame rate, and detail.

The paid upgrade path for existing owners is now part of the conversation too. Does splitting the release into digital and physical dates make this Switch 2 Edition more appealing, or more complicated?
