The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is now playable in a browser
Virtastic's OpenMW-Web project went live on July 27 and lets players launch The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in a desktop browser without installing anything. Built on OpenMW compiled to WebAssembly, it also supports saves, shaders, and gamepad input.
By default, the site opens a small demo world, but if you point it at the Data Files folder from a legal copy of Morrowind, the full game becomes available. Tribunal, Bloodmoon, and any mods already in that folder are detected and loaded automatically.
The project source is also available on GitHub, and the browser version works best in Chrome, Edge, and Brave on desktop.
The main limitation is still ownership: the full game is only accessible with the user's own legally obtained files, which keeps the project tied to a clear requirement even as it makes a classic RPG easier to start.
Would you rather play Morrowind in a browser or stick with the traditional install?
