Super Mario Sunshine heads to Switch 2 on August 13

Nintendo will add Super Mario Sunshine to the Nintendo GameCube — Nintendo Classics app on August 13, giving Switch 2 owners another GameCube-era title to play through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The library remains exclusive to Nintendo's new console, so older Switch hardware is still out of the picture.

Nintendo's teaser for the game's arrival does not show gameplay, and the company has not detailed any updates or enhancements for this version. For now, the announcement reads more like a reminder that the library is about to grow than a full look at how the game will play on Switch 2.

That said, Super Mario Sunshine is not new to Nintendo hardware. A remastered version was already included on Switch in the now-defunct Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, so some players will simply be revisiting a familiar classic.

Nintendo's GameCube lineup in Nintendo Classics will grow to 10 games with this addition. Another confirmed title is Pokémon Colosseum, though it still does not have a release date.

Super Mario Sunshine also remains one of the more controversial Nintendo GameCube-era entries. It moved away from straightforward platforming sandboxes and built its challenges around spraying water to clean up messes, with the FLUDD water gun at the center of the design. Other GameCube classics in the service have received higher-resolution improvements, but Nintendo has not said whether this release will get anything similar.
