Halo: Campaign Evolved Proved to Be a Flop on PS5, Analyst Says
Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on July 28 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. However, only about 1% of active users on Sony's console ended up booting up the game.
According to Mat Piscatella, Senior Director and Game Analyst at Circana, the title performed significantly better on Microsoft's platform. On its release day in the US, roughly 8% of active Xbox console users jumped into the game. Over on PC, the game managed to capture approximately 2% of the active Steam user base.
In stark contrast, the PS5 launch was incredibly modest, landing at 29th place in daily active users and marking the worst performance among all major platforms. Piscatella noted that this scenario perfectly highlights just how difficult it is for new premium releases to capture player attention nowadays.
Journalist Jez Corden openly criticized Microsoft's strategy to bring Halo to PlayStation. In his view, releasing the iconic shooter on a competitor's console failed to deliver the expected influx of fresh players, while dealing yet another heavy blow to the Xbox brand identity.
Previously, the PC build of Halo: Campaign Evolved was benchmarked across 30 different graphics cards.
