Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will wrap up the trilogy's story in the base game, director says
Naoki Hamaguchi has said that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is being developed so its base release can stand on its own, with any post-launch content more likely to be a character-focused side story than a continuation of the main plot. The game was announced by Square Enix on June 6 and is scheduled to launch in spring 2027.
That means the team is not planning to hold the trilogy's ending back for DLC. Hamaguchi said the studio wants to finish the core narrative in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation itself, and that any future add-on would be something separate rather than a continuation of the main plot.
If Square Enix does release downloadable content, Hamaguchi said it would likely take the form of a spin-off centered on a specific character. He compared that idea to Final Fantasy VII Episode Intermission, which focused on Yuffie, and said that kind of format feels natural for the team.

For now, though, DLC remains unconfirmed. Hamaguchi said things have not crystallized yet, and that Square Enix cannot promise a Final Fantasy 7 Revelation expansion unless there is real fan support and genuine demand. He also noted that an Epic Games Store datamine previously pointed to a possible Story Expansion Pass listing, but that does not amount to an official plan.
The same interview also touched on the FITS system, which Hamaguchi described as giving each character four outfits, with each one tied to a defined role. That is another sign that Square Enix is still shaping the game's systems while keeping the main storyline's endpoint firmly inside the release itself.
Previously, the trilogy's largest world was promised for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Also, director wants a physical edition.
Would you prefer DLC to stay a character-focused spin-off, or do you want a direct continuation of the main story?
