Call of Duty Outsold Halo: Campaign Evolved by More Than 20 to 1 on PlayStation

According to Alinea Analytics, Halo: Campaign Evolved sold approximately 351,000 copies on PS5 in July. Analyst Rhys Elliott compared its performance with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, noting that Halo's launch fell well short of expectations.

Across Sony consoles, the game sold an estimated 452,000 copies and generated less than $28 million in revenue, according to Elliott. By comparison, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the best-selling PlayStation release of the month, with around 8.2 million copies sold.

The analyst also pointed to the price as one of the main factors behind the underwhelming launch. Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on PlayStation 5 for $60, which Elliott believes was too expensive for a release of this kind. With ports of Black Ops 2 available at a lower price, Halo's cost became one of the main points of criticism.

The picture was more mixed on other platforms. Around 212,000 users purchased the game on Steam, while Xbox sales reached approximately 900,000 copies. On Microsoft's console, Halo: Campaign Evolved became the most-played game of the week and immediately took the top spot on the Xbox Top 40 chart.

However, the game still failed to match the Xbox launch of Forza Horizon 6, attracting only 62% of the player count recorded by the racing game in May.

The figures suggest that Halo: Campaign Evolved enjoyed a respectable launch on Xbox, but its PlayStation performance clearly fell short of analysts' expectations. The question now is whether long-term sales can turn things around or whether the $60 price tag will remain the game's biggest obstacle.
