Developer Shadowlight and publisher Phoenix Game have released detective adventure Kill the Shadow on Steam. To celebrate the launch, the game is available at a 10% discount until August 18. A free demo can also be downloaded from its Steam page.

Kill the Shadow is a story-driven detective game featuring semi-open locations, an investigation system, and multiple endings. Players take on the role of Lucas, a former police officer accompanied by a mysterious entity known as the Shadow. The creature can read memories and reconstruct the final moments of the dead.

The story takes place in Dark Tide City, where Lucas must investigate a series of unusual cases, including the mysterious death of a puppy named Teddy, the disappearance of Master Reed during a crowded temple fair, a long-running feud at Shipwreck Wharf, and the secrets of an unknown prison. As the investigation unfolds, Lucas will gradually uncover the truth behind the disaster that fractured the city ten years earlier.

During investigations, players will gather and analyze evidence, connect clues, and build their own chains of deduction. Cases can be approached in different ways: talk your way through a situation, bribe the right people, play mind games with suspects, or simply beat a confession out of them.

Players can also develop Lucas as they see fit by investing points in Strength, Spirit, or Charm. Their decisions will affect the fates of various characters and lead the story down different paths.

One of Kill the Shadow’s standout features is its visual style, which combines high-definition 3D environments with 2D pixel-art characters. Players will explore an abandoned factory, a wharf built on stilts, floating slums illuminated by neon signs, and the crowded streets of the Old Town district.

By the way, we previously published a feature highlighting the best noir games on PC and consoles.

Which approach would you choose during an investigation: persuasion, bribery, or brute force?
