Square Enix Profit Surges 88%, Driven by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Other Games

On August 10, 2026, Square Enix released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, reporting an 88.6% increase in operating profit and a 32.3% rise in revenue. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the company's push to bring its games to more platforms were among the biggest contributors to its gaming business.

According to the company, Square Enix generated 784.23 billion yen in revenue during the quarter, while operating profit reached 17 billion yen. The report specifically highlighted the HD Games segment, where Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales delivered particularly strong results.

Sales of older catalog titles also contributed to the HD Games segment's growth. Combined with new releases, they helped drive both revenue and profit higher compared to the same period last year.

Square Enix also highlighted its MMO business, where increased player activity in Final Fantasy XIV and the announcement of a new major expansion helped boost the company's quarterly results.

In the mobile and browser games segment, performance was supported by Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Smash/Grow. Square Enix added that all of its business segments — including games, publishing, amusement facilities, and merchandise — posted year-over-year growth during the period.

Alongside the financial results, the company also reiterated its near-term plans for the Final Fantasy VII franchise. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, with an appearance at Opening Night Live confirmed for August 25, 2026.
