«I just want to play GTA VI»: an ICU video raised over $50,000 for a fan waiting on new lungs
The clip runs under a minute, and it was filmed from an intensive care bed. Jerry Fort, a 25-year-old TikToker who posts as Void Only, explains that he has lived with interstitial lung disease since he was 17, that his lungs have been scarring for years, and that he is now waiting on a transplant. Then comes the caption that turned the video into a phenomenon: "Rockstar and their delays, man."
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, thirteen years after the last entry and two delays down the road. For most people those delays were a meme. For Fort they became a question of arithmetic.
What happened next took about a day. The video, posted on August 8, spread across TikTok and X, and the comment section filled up with strangers making the same promise in a hundred different ways — hold on, and the game is on us. One of them put it plainly: "You WILL play GTA 6, I promise."
Then the community stopped talking and started paying. A GoFundMe set up to cover the transplant and the long recovery afterwards cleared its $50,000 target and has kept climbing toward $55,000. Fort's mother, Paris Fort, thanked donors publicly, saying her son has spent his life pushing through pain for the people he cares about and for the work he makes. Doctors reportedly expect him to come through the surgery.
A caveat is worth stating plainly, and it is not a small one. Everything known about this story comes from Fort himself, his family and the fundraiser page. No hospital, physician or medical record has confirmed any of it publicly, which does not make it false but does mean the details deserve the same care the fundraiser's donors extended in good faith.
Rockstar Games has stayed silent so far, though a large fan account tagged the studio directly on August 9 asking it to notice the story. It would not be unprecedented for a publisher to reach out privately in a case like this — but nothing has been announced, and nothing is owed. The next milestone on Fort's calendar, and everyone else's, is August 27, when Rockstar shows a substantial new look at the game under the banner Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
Rockstar hasn't said a word publicly. If the call were yours to make, what would you do here? Tell us in the comments.
