CyberMP shows gameplay after semi-open Cyberpunk 2077 test
CyberMP's latest semi-open test for its fan-made multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077 peaked at 66 concurrent players, giving the team a clearer picture of where the server starts to buckle. The project still does not have even an approximate release date.
The semi-open test ran on July 25 and 26, 2026. Around 100 players were admitted to the server through Discord applications, and on one map CyberMP says it hit a project record of 66 concurrent players.
That peak came with a catch. According to the developers, the server stayed stable at 30-40 simultaneous connections but began to perform worse when more players joined, which the team links to problems in the network code.
[цut=CyberMP, project team]The peak online was 66 people on one server — that's a record for us! Unfortunately, with a larger influx of players, the server started to work less stably, but thanks to the tests we found the causes of the errors and will try to fix them in the near future so we can support many more connections.[/cit]
The telemetry collected during the test already helped the developers identify the source of some errors and improve their stress-testing tools. At the same time, Windows Defender blocked and deleted CyberMP client files because the team does not have a digital certificate, so the developers have started looking for help to get a signature and reduce false positives.
Part of the project's tooling is now on GitHub, including javascript types, an RPC interface, and the Freeroam source code. CyberMP says those materials can serve as a base for other servers, including full role-play projects. How far can the mod go if it solves stability and Windows Defender at the same time?
