Alinea Analytics said Halo: Campaign Evolved drew a notably even audience across consoles in its first two weeks, with Xbox and PlayStation accounting for most of the sales. The remake also generated an estimated $67 million in gross revenue after releasing on July 28, marking the series' first main campaign on a Sony console after 25 years of Xbox exclusivity.

Alinea Analytics said the sales were split almost evenly across platforms: 42% on Xbox, including the PC version, 41% on PlayStation, and 17% on Steam. The firm also estimated that about 2.1 million players accessed the game through Game Pass, while almost 600,000 paid an extra $20 for premium early access.

The PlayStation version accounted for about 544,000 copies and $32 million in revenue, while Steam brought in 232,000 copies and $9.3 million. That weaker PC result is where Alinea sees the biggest problem, especially since Halo: The Master Chief Collection has around 8.5 million Steam copies sold and offers more content for less money.

Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, said the value proposition simply did not work for many Steam buyers:

Price is too high for a port like this one, and the Halo brand — candidly — has lost a lot of cache.

On PlayStation, Alinea said the audience skewed toward nostalgia-driven players aged roughly 32 to 40 — people who grew up with Halo and did not forget it. The same analysis also underlined how stark the gap looks next to older Call of Duty ports on Sony's platform, with Halo: Campaign Evolved trailing far behind.

Halo Studios developed the remake on Unreal Engine 5. The studio was previously known as 343 Industries.

Does Halo: Campaign Evolved's Steam performance suggest the brand has lost more ground than Microsoft expected?
