Helldivers 2 Is Coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium Very Soon — Major Devoid of Liberty Update Is Out Now

Helldivers 2 is set to join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog later today. Arrowhead Game Studios' co-op shooter will be available to Extra and Premium subscribers. At the time of writing, the game has yet to appear in the catalog, but Sony has confirmed that it will be added sometime today.

At the same time, the developers have released a major update titled Devoid of Liberty, which continues the fight against the Illuminate. The new operation focuses on the Void, a mysterious region of the galaxy under enemy control.

Planets affected by the Void have undergone severe mutations, and according to Super Earth intelligence, the changes become even more extreme the closer Helldivers get to its center.

The update introduces several new missions. Players will be tasked with destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, gathering reconnaissance data, and infiltrating enemy structures. New secondary objectives have also been added, including eradicating Void mutations, extracting research materials, and opening an additional extraction zone that may allow squads to evacuate more quickly.

Helldivers 2 has also received new enemies. The Wretch is a fast-moving mutant capable of overwhelming unprepared fighters and dodging counterattacks. The Crusher, meanwhile, can withstand a huge amount of damage, hit hard in return, and regenerate if players fail to finish it off quickly enough.

The developers have also expanded progression to 300 ranks and added new rank titles. SEAF platoons can now assist players during operations, arriving via dropships to fight alongside squads, provide medical support with stims, and even react to salutes, handshakes, and hugs.

To celebrate Helldivers 2 joining PlayStation Plus, the developers have launched a community-wide challenge. Players need to eliminate 500 million enemies by August 18 to unlock four themed PlayStation avatars.

Arrowhead has also opened the Helldivers 2 Super Merch store. Some merchandise can be unlocked by completing in-game achievements.

The Devoid of Liberty update is already live, while Helldivers 2 is expected to become available through PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium later today.

Earlier this month, Dying Light 2, Big Walk, and Signalis were added to the base PS Plus lineup.
