Subnautica 2 Gets an Experimental Steam Branch for Early Testing
Unknown Worlds is asking Subnautica 2 players to opt in to a new Steam Experimental branch if they want to test builds before they reach the main Early Access build. The game also already has a Steam page, and the same branch has also arrived on Xbox.
The studio said the branch is meant for players who want to see future updates in an earlier state, but it comes with the usual tradeoff: these builds are more likely to contain bugs, including game-breaking issues. To join, players need to open the game's properties in Steam and choose Experimental in the Game Versions and Betas settings.
Unknown Worlds also warned that saves made in the Experimental branch will not work with the main branch. Save files are stored separately, so main saves will not appear while you are playing the Experimental version, and progress cannot be imported or exported between them.
The developer said the branch will not update daily. Instead, it will be used shortly before wider releases and for smaller patches and fixes between major updates.
Experimental does often mean just that.
Krafton previously reported record-breaking revenues, highlighting Subnautica 2 as one of its primary growth drivers.
Are you planning to check out the experimental builds?
