Resident Evil Requiem's sales split varies sharply by region, Capcom horror game

Hennadiy Chemеris

Christopher Dring says sales of Resident Evil Requiem break down very differently from one market to the next, with some regions favoring boxed copies far more than others. The data, which covers purchases through the end of June 2026, puts the U.S. firmly on the digital side, while France and Japan remain much closer to even.

In the U.S., physical copies accounted for 22% of Resident Evil Requiem sales, while digital versions made up 78%. That is the widest gap in the reported set and the clearest sign that digital buying has taken a much stronger lead there than in other markets.

By contrast, France and Japan are still split almost down the middle. In France, physical sales reached 55% and digital sales 45%, while Japan was nearly even at 51% physical and 49% digital. Those numbers suggest that boxed editions still matter to many players in both countries, even for the same release.

Australia and the United Kingdom also showed digital ahead, but by smaller margins than the U.S. In Australia, physical copies represented 43% of sales and digital copies 57%. In the U.K., the split was 40% physical and 60% digital.

Dring summed up the broader takeaway in a short remark:

Not all markets are built the same when it comes to the digital transition
— Christopher Dring, journalist, The Game Business

. The numbers around Resident Evil Requiem back that up, showing that the shift to digital is far from uniform across regions.

By the way, it was previously reported that Capcom isn’t concerned about moving away from physical discs.

Physical sales remain strong in some regions despite the digital shift. Which result surprises you more: the U.S. leaning so heavily digital, or France and Japan keeping physical editions so competitive?
