Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave looks like a huge tactical RPG for Switch 2
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is taking the series in a bigger direction, with a four-route structure, a separate dungeon battle system, and a focus on character bonds. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave comes from Intelligent Systems and Nintendo, and early previews say its scale is unusually ambitious for the series.
The game follows four main protagonists — Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda — and players can switch between their routes while keeping everything in a single save file. That means each campaign can be continued without starting over, giving the story a more layered structure than a standard single-route run.
The plot centers on the Heroic Games, a gladiatorial tournament held in the capital city of Dagsion. Between major battles, players will get free days to train, explore, complete quests, and recruit allies, and that pacing is one reason previews say the game feels bigger than usual for Fire Emblem.
The combat still uses grid-based tactical battles, but the traditional weapon triangle is gone in favor of more flexible strengths and weaknesses. In dungeons, the game switches to a separate Clash system with simplified turn-based battles, while Blaze Arts add powerful special attacks that cost HP to use. Support bonds also remain important, with gifts and shared meals helping raise support levels for recruitment and scenes.
Previewers have repeatedly described Fortune's Weave as unusually large and ambitious for the series, and the parallel routes are a big part of that impression. With the Heroic Games, the free-day structure, and the mix of tactical maps and Clashes, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems seem to be aiming for a Fire Emblem that leans even harder into scale and character focus.
