Halo Studios said next week's update for Halo: Campaign Evolved will target mission flow, enemy behavior, visual settings, and stability, but there is one catch: installing it will invalidate mid-mission save progress. The studio has already highlighted five of the biggest changes.

According to Halo Support, the update to the standalone remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will include fixes and improvements, with full patch notes due once the update goes live. The game itself was released on July 28, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

One of the main gameplay changes targets Sgt. Johnson, whose behavior will be adjusted so mission progression is less likely to get blocked. Halo Studios is also changing Jackals so they can be staggered more reliably when players aim for their hands and feet.

The patch will also affect combat allies and Flood Marines. When the Magnified Skull is active, both Marines and Flood Marines will fire their Assault Rifles, while players will gain the option to turn off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain.

On the technical side, the update adds additional stability improvements across multiple platforms. The trade-off is that mid-mission saves will no longer be valid after installation, although unlocked missions and Rally Points will remain intact.

How much does the mid-mission save wipe matter if the update fixes progression and stability issues?
