Pearl Abyss has revealed that only 9.7% of players on Steam have completed the main storyline of Crimson Desert, despite nearly five months passing since its release. The situation isn't much different on consoles, suggesting that the vast majority of the audience prefers taking their time, getting sidetracked by side activities instead of rushing to the finish line.

Breaking it down by platform, 13% of Xbox players and 15.2% of PlayStation players have finished the story. Across Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, an average of just 12.6% of users have unlocked the "Expert Storyteller" achievement, which is awarded for completing all main story quests. Interestingly, thousands of players have clocked over 200 hours in Crimson Desert, even though data from HowLongToBeat indicates that the main campaign takes roughly 69 hours to wrap up.

In response to community feedback, the studio has promised to make substantial tweaks to Crimson Desert's narrative, specifically noting that they are working on improving the "cohesion of pivotal scenes" throughout the campaign. Additionally, Pearl Abyss confirmed that at least one major story DLC is currently in development and slated for release in 2026. Since its launch, the game has received 17 updates, with the latest patch introducing cross-progression between PC and consoles alongside improvements to the in-game economy.

Crimson Desert is a massive open-world action-adventure RPG from South Korean studio Pearl Abyss (the creators of Black Desert). At its core, the project blends key mechanics from iconic hits: the cinematic depth and meticulous detail of Red Dead Redemption 2, the gritty atmosphere of The Witcher 3, the fluid combat of Dragon's Dogma, and the exploratory freedom of The Legend of Zelda.

Previously, it became known that the Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert will be more than just a simple port.

Have you finished the main story campaign, or did you ditch the plot to go off and explore the world?
