Marcus Lehto calls Halo: Campaign Evolved's missing PvP a misstep
Marcus Lehto, the Halo co-creator and original Combat Evolved art director, blasted Halo: Campaign Evolved's lack of split-screen PvP on X. He said the remake's absence of the feature was a mistake caused by "lack of oversight and poor planning," and clarified that he meant the game should have offered PvP on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
He made the comments in a post on X. Lehto was blunt about the feature's absence, saying there was little excuse for it and that split-screen multiplayer should have been in the game from the start.
Halo: Campaign Evolved was confirmed to focus on co-op experiences instead of PvP, and Halo Studios has not indicated that PvP will be added later. That makes Lehto's criticism more direct: he is not talking about a missing mode that might still arrive, but about a decision he believes should never have been made in the first place.

Lehto also took aim at the remake's Forerunner art direction, saying the ring looks like it was built a few years ago. In his view, the original Halo ring should feel ancient, vast, alive, and like a tomb for the horrors within.
Split screen MP in Campaign Evolved should have been included. There's little excuse aside from lack of oversight and poor planning that led to this misstep. So sad this wasn't included.
Previously, Halo: Campaign Evolved remake got a mixed verdict from its co-creator.
Do you think Halo: Campaign Evolved should have launched with PvP, or was focusing on co-op the right call?
