Lords of the Fallen Patch 2.5.593 Rewrites How Boss Weapons Work — and Fixes a Co-Op Save Trap
Boss weapons in Lords of the Fallen used to hide their best moves behind questlines. That requirement is gone. Hexworks and CI Games released update 2.5.593 on August 15, and its centrepiece is a full rework of how special attacks unlock: the move becomes available the moment your character meets the weapon's stat requirements, regardless of upgrade level. The patch is live on PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions to follow.
The studio framed this as a direct response to player feedback — people wanted room to experiment with these weapons during a run rather than after finishing a specific chain of tasks. The quests that previously gated the specials have not been discarded, though: they now reward upgrade materials instead. Hexworks also rebalanced the special attacks themselves, paying particular attention to how they perform at low upgrade levels, and added new tutorial material covering boss weapons and their abilities.
The most consequential fix sits on the co-op side. Leaving a shared session could silently flip one player's save from Veteran mode to Legacy mode, and once that happened there was no way back — no Veteran run, no further co-op on that file. Both players had to be in Veteran for the bug to trigger, which made it easy to miss until the damage was done. One caveat worth knowing: the fix protects future sessions only, and saves already affected stay broken.
A second save-related bug is gone as well. Owners of the full game could load a file and find themselves dumped back at the very start of the campaign. The same caveat applies — saves hit by the earlier hotfix are not recovered.
The rest of the notes cover the sort of specifics that only matter once you have lived with them. Several weapons had their special-attack charge handling corrected: St. Latimer's Relic Spear could be fired indefinitely one-handed at half a Withered charge, and displayed the wrong charge cost two-handed; the Silent Saint's Halberd refused to fire one-handed at exactly one charge; the Queen's Head Hammer fired without the two charges it was supposed to require. Shrine purchase messaging is clearer when you already own an item, and controller terminology has been aligned with platform standards across the Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Ukrainian and Russian localizations.
Does dropping the quest requirement make boss weapons worth building around, or did the hunt make them feel earned?
