Bethesda Warns Fallout 4 and Skyrim Updates May Disrupt Mods
Bethesda Game Studios announced that it is urging Fallout 4 mod authors to back up their load orders ahead of a patch arriving on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and said a new update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is also in development. The studio says the Fallout 4 patch is focused on general Creations improvements, while mods may be affected by conflicts and broken load orders.
Before the update goes live, Bethesda advises players to log into their Fallout 4 save if they have not done so in a while, or manually save their load order. After that, the entire Creations list can be re-downloaded at once once the patch is available.
The company also confirmed that a Skyrim update is in the works, but it has not announced any release date or release window yet. Bethesda Game Studios put it bluntly:
On Tuesday, August 18th, a patch will be coming to Fallout 4 focusing on general Creations improvements. As a precaution, prior to these updates we encourage players to log into your game save if you haven't done so in a while or manually save your load order. Once your load order is saved, you'll be able to re-download your entire Creations list at once when the update is live. Additionally, we are also working on a Skyrim update with details to come soon.
That warning will likely sound familiar to modders, who are already bracing for conflicts and load-order problems. Bethesda's message makes clear that players who rely on mods should back up their setups before either update lands.
Will you back up your Fallout 4 or Skyrim mod load order before Bethesda's next updates land?
