Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time joins GOG Preservation Program with modern PC support
On August 18, GOG announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has joined its Preservation Program, and the store page now lists the 2003 action-adventure for modern PCs.
The update adds native widescreen and ultrawide support, along with intelligent FOV scaling based on monitor aspect ratio. GOG also says the game now includes a multi-monitor mouse lock option, an FPS limiter, and a new in-game overlay for real-time setting tweaks.
Behind the scenes, GOG says it implemented a lightweight wrapper to resolve modern hardware incompatibilities. The company also locked the main menu to its original 4:3 bounds to preserve hard-coded UI assets, keeping the classic presentation intact where it matters most.
GOG tied the release to Ubisoft's canceled remake and said it would move quickly to bring the original game into the Preservation Program.
We're happy to say that we'll be hard at work to bring the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time into the GOG Preservation Program as fast as we can!
We will make sure it is the best version you have ever played.
Earlier, original Prince of Persia was slated to enter GOG's preservation program following the remake's cancellation.
Does preserving the original after the remake was canceled make this the version more players should revisit?
