Nintendo Switch Online adds three NES classics in September update

Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo Switch Online library received three classic NES games in September: Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom, Ikari Warriors, and R.C. Pro-Am 2. The update is already available to subscribers on both Switch and Switch 2, while the Japanese version replaces R.C. Pro-Am 2 with Dragon Buster.

Nintendo of America separately confirmed that the entire lineup is now available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. In its official post, the company listed the games without requiring the Expansion Pack and described them as part of the NES Classics library.

According to Nintendo Everything, the September update is part of the standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription and does not require the Expansion Pack. This means all users on the base tier can access the games on both of Nintendo's current consoles.

Nintendo Life provided brief descriptions of the games as well. It described Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom as a 1991 Tecmo platformer, R.C. Pro-Am 2 as a 1992 racing game from Rare, and Ikari Warriors as a 1986 run-and-gun title from SNK. Nintendo Everything adds that in Ikari Warriors, players take control of Paul and Vince as they infiltrate an enemy base to take down an evil nation, all while having to manage limited ammunition.

R.C. Pro-Am 2 also lets players race against each other in two-player mode across 24 different tracks, with upgrades available for purchase at the R.C. Model Shop. With that in mind, September's lineup feels like more than just another routine catalog update, bringing together three very different NES releases ranging from action to racing.

All three classic games are now available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
