RPCS3 refuses DLSS 5 support and calls the technology visual distortion
RPCS3 is sticking to an accuracy-first philosophy and says that is why it will not add official DLSS 5 support to the PS3 emulator on PC. The developers also said they do not plan to ship AI-based solutions with the project, arguing that the emulator's job is to reproduce PlayStation 3 games as accurately as possible, down to individual CPU cycles.
The team said it does not want technologies that noticeably alter the visual style or the creators' intent. In its view, image upscaling, frame generation and interpolation can mask optimization problems and increase input latency, so users who still want those options should rely on third-party software.
RPCS3 also acknowledged that some enthusiasts are already testing a leaked DLSS 5 version with the emulator. In that discussion, the developers sharply criticized the result and said:
We saw the garbage it generates. We will not ship such neural slop.
That leaves official DLSS 5 support off the table for now, with the team sticking to its accuracy-first approach. The question is whether users will value that principle over the visual and performance tricks offered by newer AI tools.
Should an emulator prioritize accuracy over AI upscaling tools like DLSS 5?
