Enthusiasts Get DLSS 5 Running on an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT via a Mod

Arkadiy Andrienko

A developer known as danielblnc has released the DLSS-NR on AMD project, which makes it possible to run DLSS 5 on the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. The mod is aimed at Radeon RX 9000 series cards based on the RDNA 4 architecture and targets games that support FSR — this isn't official compatibility, but rather a hobbyist tweak that ports NVIDIA's tech onto rival hardware.

The way it works is pretty straightforward: just drop the dlssnr_on_amd_setup.exe installer and the nvngx_dlssnr.dll library into the folder containing the game's executable file. After that, neural rendering gets activated through FSR 3 or FSR 4 profiles, and the settings are displayed in an overlay by pressing the End key.

On GitHub, the author notes that image quality is already very close to the official DLSS 5 implementation, though some effects aren't working at 100% just yet. For testing, the project was run in Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V Enhanced, with older GPUs not making the cut for support.

According to measurements in Alpha 0.2.7, the project is already delivering around 30 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p on the RX 9070 XT. That's roughly 12% higher than the previous version, and the author hopes to get performance close to the level of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti while keeping image quality intact — in his words, it already looks a lot like the real DLSS 5, though some effects still aren't quite up to par.

Do you see mods like this as a useful experiment, or risky tinkering with your GPU's inner workings?
