Konami is marking Castlevania's 40th anniversary by making the original Castlevania free on iOS and Android through October 24, 2026. Players who download the game during the promotion can keep downloading and playing it after the offer ends, and an anniversary trailer has already fueled talk of possible re-releases.

The mobile release is a direct port of the original NES game, with touchscreen controls and offline play. Download it on the App Store or Google Play during the promotion.

First released in Japan in 1986, Castlevania made its international debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. The series will mark its 40th anniversary on September 26, 2026.

Konami's anniversary trailer shows covers for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — in that order.

The sequence led to speculation that the games could receive remasters, possibly as a collection, but Konami has not announced any such re-releases.

Konami described the free mobile release as a thank-you to fans:

As a token of our gratitude to all the players who have supported the series over the years, we are delighted to share the game that started it all and hope you will enjoy experiencing the beginning of the Castlevania saga as part of this special 40th anniversary celebration.
