Sonic's $7,000 Porcelain Statue Is Limited to 50 Pieces Worldwide
YOYOYO has turned Sonic the Hedgehog into a numbered Arita Ware porcelain statue, "Infinite Blue," made in a worldwide run of 50. Overseas buyers will pay $7,000 per figure, before taxes, duties, and shipping; in Japan, it costs 1 million yen, including tax and shipping.
Sales begin on October 9, 2026. Five statues will be sold first-come, first-served at the Sonic the Exhibition: Across Generations event at Ikebukuro PARCO in Tokyo. The remaining pieces will be offered through an online lottery, with applications open from October 9 to October 18 and one entry allowed per person.
The statue is made from Arita porcelain, named for the city in Saga Prefecture regarded as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain. Studio 224porcelain designed it, while Riso Kiln handled the painting and finishing. Its blue color comes from gosu, a traditional underglaze pigment that the makers say resists fading.
Patterns across the statue's curved surface carry meanings tied to Sonic: shippo circles represent endless energy, seigaiha waves stand for adventure, and yagasuri patterns symbolize his determination to keep moving forward. Each piece is made to order, with delivery taking up to around 10 months after the application period ends.
The fleeting trail of the supersonic blue flash has been captured by the hands of skilled craftsmen and immortalized in porcelain, for a craft that will be passed down through the ages.
Would collectors pay $7,000 for a numbered Sonic porcelain statue, knowing only 50 will be made worldwide?
