Disney Isn't Discussing an Epic Games Buyout Right Now, but More Fortnite Projects Are Planned
Disney and Epic Games have several launches planned over the next two years, and Disney president and chief creative officer Dana Walden said the companies are not currently discussing a buyout. In a Bloomberg interview, Walden said the pair previously held serious talks about an investment and equity stake, but not a full acquisition; Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic in 2024 for about 9% of the company.
The partnership includes work on an entertainment universe connected to Fortnite, and Walden said the upcoming releases will show what the collaboration can do.
Those are not the conversations we're having right now, but we have a great partnership and a number of launches coming up over the next two years that are going to demonstrate the value of this partnership.
Fortnite has already featured characters and properties from The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Toy Story. Chapter 5 Season 4 had a Marvel theme, while Chapter 6 included a Star Wars mini-season.
Insider Gaming reported that Fortnite Chapter 8 could begin in December with a possible Avengers: Doomsday tie-in. Neither Disney nor Epic Games has confirmed a connection between the game and the film.
What would you want to see in the next Disney and Epic Games projects, and which franchise should come to Fortnite next?
