Co-op in Baldur's Gate 3: How to Play Online with a Friend

Like many modern games, the third part of Baldur's Gate supports co-operative gameplay. Your friends can create their own character or take control of one of your party members if they join your game. We will explain how to play Baldur's Gate 3 in co-op mode in this guide.

If one of your friends leaves the game, control of their character will pass to another player. In Baldur's Gate 3, you can save your progress achieved during co-op play. To continue, simply load the save file, and all of your friends who participated in the previous session will be automatically invited.

If you don't want to start the game over and plan to invite friends to continue your current playthrough with you, the algorithm is as follows:

If you don't want to play through a regular internet connection or if it's giving you an error, you can try using Radmin VPN. It allows you to connect multiple computers into a single local network. After installing, go to the multiplayer settings and when choosing a server, check the box next to Connect via LAN. This method also works if your computers are connected by a cable.

The PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 offers the option for co-op play on a single screen. To do this, you need to connect two gamepads to the computer. First, turn on the first controller and wait until the game sees it, then use the second device. In this case, each player will get a separate character.

If this method didn't work for you, try adding the second player using the multiplayer settings tab. There is a corresponding function there.

If it still doesn't work, there's a chance the game doesn't support your gamepad. Also, note that you cannot play in split-screen mode with a keyboard and mouse.

For cooperative play on a single screen using Steam Deck, open the game properties and set the launch argument SteamDeck=0 %command%.

At the moment, crossplay between PC and PS5 versions of the game is not available. However, it may become available in the future. If this happens, we will update the guide.
