How to Start the Find the Myconid Quest
Head to the myconid colony, which can be found in the Underdark in the second act. In the western part of the camp, you will find the merchant Derrit Bonecloak, who has lost her husband. This is how you'll receive the Find the Myconid quest.
How to Save the Myconid
The myconid itself is located to the west of the myconid colony, at the edge of a terrifying chasm. Descending via gnarled roots, heroes will enter a small cave with green mushrooms. Pass through the field of bibberbangs and hand over the backpack that Baëlen left nearby to successfully complete the quest. The conversation with him will start automatically as soon as you enter the new area.
Here are a few strategies to safely complete this quest:
- If you have a Misty Step scroll, after passing a strength check (10), you can throw this item to Baëlen, after which he will be able to get out on his own;
- Summon a Mage Hand, which Gale initially has, and through simple manipulations, throw the backpack to Baëlen;
- Take control of one of the characters and move around the location in tactical mode, trying not to touch the bibberbangs.
Note: Do not take the contents of Baëlen's backpack, as he will perceive this as a provocation and attack you. Also, be careful not to throw items directly at the character, because he may receive damage and attempt to retaliate.
Where to Find and Buy the Misty Step Scroll
The Misty Step scroll can be purchased from the merchant Roa Munglow in the Goblin Camp location. It can also be found in the basement of the doctor in the Blighted Village. For saving Baëlen, you can ask him for a rare scroll of invisibility as a reward.
Where to Find the Goodshroom and Who to Give It To
After saving Baëlen, talk to him, but do not rush to leave this location. In the corner, there will be a goodshroom — a rare plant that heals whoever eats it and also removes all status ailments. It costs 75 gold per unit. Use the high ledge on the left edge of the cave to bypass most of the bibberbang field or use tactical mode to safely navigate the minefield.
If you're not good at tactics, you can simply run with a character and grab the mushroom, then use teleportation. Having obtained the new item, you will have to decide who to give it to:
- Give it to Baëlen — this will restore his memory and clear thinking. It turns out that the gnome was a tyrant, so Derrit will not be pleased by this event. Baëlen will give you a reward in the third act when you return to Baldur's Gate and visit his shop;
- Give it to Derrit — this will be a profitable deal because she sells them for a very large amount. To receive the prize, you need to reach the third act and visit the Bonecloak shop;
- Give it to Shadowheart, passing a persuasion or intimidation check (12) — eating this mushroom, she will recover part of her lost memories. This way, the player will learn that somewhere in Baldur's Gate, she has a childhood friend worth searching for, and it will also improve your relationship with her.
Where to Find the Secret Chest in the Bibberbang Cave
If you have a shovel, you can find another treasure in this location. After saving the myconid and finding the goodshroom, ignite the bibberbangs to make the area safe. Move to the place where you found the goodshroom and pass an attention check. If at least one of the characters is successful, you will notice a small mound, digging it up will reveal a wooden chest with good rewards.
